PENGGUNAAN FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSION UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN PERCAKAPAN BAHASA ARAB SISWA SMP DARUL ULUM
Abstract
Based on initial observations at SMP Darul Ulum, the researcher found that students there are unable to construct sentences from the vocabulary they have memorized when speaking in Arabic, making it difficult for listeners to understand their conversations. They do not practice speaking Arabic because they are afraid to talk. To address this issue, the researcher used the Focus Group Discussion method to improve the students' speaking skills. This study aims to identify the obstacles faced by students in Arabic conversation and analyze the effectiveness of Focus Group Discussions (FGD) in improving students' conversational skills at SMP Darul Ulum. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive approach and a case study approach with a population of all seventh-grade students totaling 253. To obtain research data, the researchers used the implementation of FGD, interviews, and observations. The results of the research in this study indicate that the analysis shows that students involved in the FGD experienced a significant improvement in their speaking skills. Data shows that 70% of students who participated in the FGD were able to actively engage in discussions, compared to only 30% before the implementation of this method. Additionally, observations show that students are more confident in using Arabic in everyday conversation situations.
